The parishes of Our Lady of the Valleys have been investing in the future – a greener, more sustainable future.
By the end of the “Season of Creation” (4 Oct) both All Hallows in Miskin and St Mary Magdalene in Ynyshir were furnished with photovoltaic solar panels and generating their own electricity. Within days of switching on our system, the BBC was headlining that “renewables overtake coal as world’s biggest source of electricity” (source). We can’t claim responsibility for the milestone – the figures published were a few months old – but we are pleased to have been part of the revolution!
A similar installation at Ss Gabriel & Raphael in Tonypandy is planned, pending a meter upgrade; and All Hallows also expects to install heat pumps to replace its aging gas boilers once planning permission is obtained. Electric heating will follow in the other churches once their boilers reach the end of their healthy lifespan.
