Sacrament of Reconciliation & 24 Hours for the Lord

One of the core issues for this Jubilee Year is ‘Forgiveness’, with a particular emphasis on people seeking the forgiveness of God in the Sacrament of Reconciliation as part of the Jubilee Indulgence.  To quote Pope Francis:

“This experience of full forgiveness cannot fail to open our hearts and minds to the need to forgive others in turn. Forgiveness does not change the past; it cannot change what happened in the past, yet it can allow us to change the future and to live different lives, free of anger, animosity and vindictiveness. Forgiveness makes possible a brighter future, which enables us to look at the past with different eyes, now more serene, albeit still bearing the trace of past tears. …. In this Jubilee Year, may no one be deprived of the opportunity to receive God’s forgiveness and consolation.” (Spes non confundit n23)

Consider coming together as a deanery at Jubilee churches to keep 24 hours for the Lord on 28th-29th March.  How might that work? What would it look like?  When arrangements are in place let with Alun John or myself know so we can suitably publicise.

The Jubilee Year has already seen people return to the Sacrament after many years. Lives are already being touched.   We can help make the process easier by making available a guide to the Sacrament for them to reflect upon (example: https://www.cardiffcathedral.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/Confession-Guide.pdf) and a simple step by step guide inside the confessional that tells them each step of the process.

It is made up of four ‘ways’ beginning in London, Leeds, Cardiff and Norwich will converge at the Cathedral of St Barnabas in Nottingham on 14th September, marking England and Wales with the sign of the cross. It is possible for people to sign up and complete the entire ‘way’ or to join different days.  People are also encouraged to join in prayer wherever they are if they cannot walk.
