Would You Like to Be the New Engagement Officer for the Parishes of Our Lady of the Valleys?

The Parishes of Our Lady of the Valleys (the Catholic Churches in the southern half of Rhondda Cynon Taf) seek an Engagement Officer. The successful candidate will work with individuals in these worshipping communities to identify their gifts and talents, deepen their understanding of these as given by God for the growth of the community, and direct volunteers to existing and new opportunities to use their gifts.

The Engagement Officer will also develop and regularly update a set of metrics for parish health (worshipper and volunteer satisfaction, financial giving, attendance), deliver small group training where appropriate, and attend parish leadership groups as required. The continuation of the post beyond the standard 6-month probationary period is dependent on these metrics demonstrating that the role is adding sufficient value to the parishes.

This is a full-time post for 35 hours per week with an annual salary of £23,500 plus pension benefits, for a fixed term contract for two years. The limited availability of volunteers means that hours will be worked flexibly, with meetings often taking place during evenings and at weekends. The employee will be based in office space at St Dyfrig’s Presbytery, Treforest, but will be expected to meet volunteers at other church sites in Tonypandy, Ynyshir and Miskin, so use of one’s own transport is essential.

The Engagement Officer’s role will include working with participants in Youth Activities concerning their opportunities for volunteering, so an Enhanced DBS check will be required.
